Frequently asked questions
Is this launch post writer free?
Yes. You can write 2 posts a day with no account. Sign in with Google, still free, for 10 a day. A post that fails does not count, and a thread counts as one post.
Does it work on a private repo?
No. It reads the pull request through GitHub's public API without signing in as you, and GitHub answers a request for a private repo the same way it answers one for a PR that does not exist. This tool only reads public PRs. For private work, the StashBase app runs Claude Code or Codex on your own machine, next to your code.
Why fill in “Why it matters”?
Because the PR only says what changed. The title, the description and the commit messages tell the model what you built; they rarely say who it is for, what changes for them, or why you built it this way, and that is what makes someone stop scrolling. The box is optional, and a post can be written from the PR alone, but it is much better with two or three sentences there. It takes up to 500 characters.
Will it make up features or numbers?
No. It is told to take what changed only from the PR's title, description and commit messages and from your notes, and never to invent a feature, a metric or a user reaction. It may mention how many files or lines changed, but not as the point of the post. The voice is its own, so a persona adds its reactions in character. Read the post against the PR before you publish it.
One tweet or a thread?
One tweet is the default: most launches say what shipped and why in one post. Pick “A short thread” in the menu at the bottom left when there is more to tell, such as how it works or what you tried first, and you get 3 to 6 tweets that build on each other, with Copy on each and Copy all. Either way, Post on X opens X with the first tweet filled in.
Which voice should I pick?
Builder, the default, suits a shipped-it post: casual, first person, and happy to go into how it works. Marketer is upbeat launch copy, Journalist reports it straight, Storyteller opens on a moment, and No persona says it plainly. Switch and press Write post again to compare.
Is the PR or what I write stored?
No. The PR is fetched from GitHub's API when you press Fetch. It and your notes then go through our Cloudflare Worker to Anthropic's Claude API, which writes the post. The Worker logs lengths and the tokens used, never the text, and nothing is cached. See our privacy policy.
I already use Claude. Do I need this?
Not necessarily. If you pay for Claude, you can paste the PR into a chat and ask for a launch tweet; this page saves you copying the description and commits over, gives you the voices to switch between, and runs on Opus 5.5 at no cost to you. Where a chat falls short is your own material: past posts, changelogs and notes in files on your computer. StashBase is a free, local-first writing workspace where Claude Code or Codex works beside those files, so a post can draw on what you have already written.
